As with most of the projects that Tony and I do on the wagons, one usually follows suit in some fashion when one improves or modifies something for the better. So there is no surprise that Lilly is shedding her spark plugs for her a diesel engine of her own.
For Tony and I, a diesel land cruiser is the holy grail of cruisers, besides right hand drive, factory cable lockers, ambulance doors, etc. Since Tony did his build a while back, I have been itching to convert Lilly and now the timing is right.
The exact engine of choice is under consideration at the moment, either 3B or 13BT. It will come down to what I can find available in the coming months. Along with the engine, I will be installing an H55 transmission. I have been yearning to shift into 5th gear on the highways, get the RPM’s down and the MPG up a bit.
This project won’t start taking physical shape until the end of the year when I return from deployment, but the logistics, scouting and research have begun.
