Lilly Re-powered Part 1

Well the time has arrived, although not do to my planning.  Due to multiple times overheating, ending up finding coolant in the oil, as well as going through quart of oil a week, the 3FE gave up.  With roughly 275K miles, she was for the most part trouble free till now.  Time to pull the plugs… literally.

The diesel Land Cruiser.  An option, a standard in some, by countries throughout the world.  Here in the USA it’s a dream.  Those of us who desire one have to either acquire older models to import or “upgrade” their current gasser models.  Since Tony pulled the trigger (Tony’s BJ61) a few years back, my interest has grown further.  The plan has always been to convert Lilly to a diesel when the 3FE gives up.

I chose the 6cyl 2H engine.  The pretty much drop in conversion, few motor mount modifications (more to follow), and the reuse of my H55F transmission were some of the main reasons for the 2H.  The plan is to use manual controls like Tony did on his 3B (Manual Controls on My Diesel) and to add a turbo later on.   Unlike most conversions, I will not have the donor vehicle parked next to me.  I will be ordering what I need and using what I have available for some things.

With various FSM’s, the internet, and Tony on speed dial… what could go wrong?
