In preparation for pulling pulling the engine, I started removing what I could until the hoist could be picked up. The fun part about this was not worrying about labeling vacuum lines or wiring in fear of not knowing where they went upon reinstallation, it all wasn’t getting reinstalled. I basically made two piles, the reuse pile and the discard pile. The discard pile was winning in size.
A perfect time to clean things up as well. I discovered the enigine bay was also white in color. I didn’t have a pressure washer, but I did have an atomizer. Using that with a little bit of brush scrubbing did the job. After the cleaning I started cleaning up the aftermarket wiring left behind, found a few wires from past accessories hanging out and got rid of those. Also chose to redo the dual battery wiring setup. Previously I have had the battery switch and isolator in the glove compartment, but now that I will have some new real estate I want to move it all into the engine bay.
With the front end removed enough for the removal, I went and picked up the hoist. With a little persuasion, she let go and we pulled her out. Once on the ground I was able to further clean and trim down on whats not needed. It’s worth noting that I do not have the HJ60 wiring harness to change out, so I will be trimming down the existing FJ62 harness to fit my needs. I won’t lie, it has made my head hurt on tracing back wires to only the couple sensors I need now. As of right now, the only sensor I think I need from the engine harness coming from the EFI computer is the coolant temp wire. Everything else is useless. The oil pressure and ammeter wiring are on different harnesses. I did pickup mechanical water temp and oil pressure guages to install. Just a good idea to have.
