When it comes to fabrication not everything is made of metal. I made my snorkel out of fiberglass tubing. I am used to working with it at work and it is relatively easy to repair if it gets totalled on the trail. Eric made his as well and he didn’t make it out of metal either. He calls his the Home Depot special as it’s made of Black ABS pipe and dryer ducting with a top from ARB.
Don’t know how many times I have had to explain that most snorkels, including mine were designed for dust not water. Having the intake up high gets you out of the worst of the dust. It would work in water but if I ever got that deep I would have worse problems….
Once the snorkel enters the fender I switched over to rubber hose and that is connected to another fiberglass section that makes the turn into the stock air cleaner housing. My housing holds a K&N filter by the way. They handle large amounts of dust better than a stock filter which is prone to clogging.
Other than the hose inside the fender this small aluminum bracket is the only attachment for the snorkel . Its about halfway up the windshield pillar. Two sheet metal screws hold it in place and two more attach the snorkel to it. What you can’t see is that it was bent to conform to the pillar as well as the snorkel and it is about 2 inches wide. I have never had a vibration or looseness problem so it seems to be more than adequate.
