Navigation and Communication

Getting around has changed a lot since the paper map and compass days

Tony’s 2M Radio

By Tony K

I have now entered a whole new world.  The land of the ham radio operator, well almost as I still have to get my license so I can pull the transmit button.  Lucky for me I have a neighbor who is really into amateur radio so I have someone to pester with questions.

CB Radio

While there are newer ways to communicate the old standby, a CB, still has its place.  Its a great way to talk on the trail and keep everyone together.

I found a perfect place for the small Cobra CB I bought just below the stock radio.  It fits in a void that is sometimes filled with a factory tape deck.  At least this place is available in a 60, not so in a 62.

GPS

Getting around and tracking just where you have been is a lot more fun than it used to be.  GPS technology has gotten a lot cheaper and it is now practical to put it in your rig.  My GPS device of choice is the Garmin 60csx.  I like all the features it has available and where I mounted it makes it easy to access with my hand resting on the shifter.  Having it mounted up high like this means my eyes don’t have to leave the road.
