Not that my BJ doesn’t have it’s share of rattles but one of them was giving me fits. It wasn’t there when I first rebuilt this thing so I knew I could probably find it. For the longest time I could have sworn it was in the rear door on the passenger side. First thought it was the cup holder I riveted to the inner door panel but nope. Next suspect was the door limit bar as it had a sound really similar to the knocking I was hearing. Even thought it might be the shovel on the roof rack but a rag failed to stop the noise.
Then I got my Eureka moment with some help from my middle son, Jeremiah. He managed to pin point the sound to an area closer to the roof of all places. Thats what I get for always sitting in the drivers seat, not that I want to change that. Once we got home, looked around the outside and noticed that my Yakima rack would not get any tighter, knob was bottomed out. Looked at some of the other knobs and after removing them found different length of bolts in them. Switched them all to the longer ones and no more rattling! At least for that area…
As for the dechrome, a bit of thinner and a can of flat khaki spray paint and my rims once again look like I want them too. I like them this way so much better. And no need to worry that the paint won’t stick, the last set I did this way are still going strong more than a year later with next to no touch ups. All for less than $10….
