Tech and Fabrication

If you want to change, modify, fabricate or maintain your rig you should find it here.

Driveshaft Tech

By Tony K

A fairly simple component of our rigs but there are some things you should know.  But first a little explanation of the two types of driveshafts you will find on a 60 is in order.  Keep in mind the point of this article is to give you some know how about the two types of driveshafts not provide all the answers as there is a lot more to learn about.

Antifreeze Simplified

By Tony K

If like me you thought the differences between antifreeze was simply a choice between green or red you would be mistaken…  First of all, color means nothing.  The base component of antifreeze is clear.  Red, green, blue, purple, orange and pink are all just dyes added to differentiate ones own brand.  And sadly there is no industry standard for the color of each type of mix.  And I also had no idea how different the mixes really are.

Pulling the Dash Cap

By Tony K

Not nearly as difficult as you may fear…  If like me you got a new stereo the easiest way to install it is to remove the entire dash cap to install the new one.  And if I remember correctly when I took out my factory stereo it meant the cap had to come out anyway.  While this deals with the early dash cap, the one in a 62 is not all that different.

Ignition Key Cylinder

By Tony K

One of these days you may find yourself in this predicament.  Put the key in and nothing happens.  And I am not talking about a dead battery or other electical problem.  This is when you go to turn the key and it just doesn’t move.  Hopefully when it does happen you, it’s in your driveway.

Body and Frame Swap

By Tony K

Time and road salt eventually take their toll on our wagons resulting in the dreaded body or frame swap.  But other than lots of bolts, wires and fuel lines it’s really not that hard to do.  The main concern is to be safe as you will have a lot of metal up in the air and a chassis rolling around to add to the fun.
