Ouch!

Our rigs can bite us in numerous ways and I found another on our recent trip to Cruise the Woods down in Oregon.

I love the fact that my rig has manual steering, no hoses to rupture or pump to fail or belt to break.  But there is one downside.

Generally all it takes is one trip through the woods and you learn to forever keep your thumbs out of the wheel.  All it takes is an errant rock, stump or moments in attention and you will know why.

But the damage to my arm you see in the photo was new to me.  A combination of inattention and a stump is the result of watching an FJC get in a bad situation and me trying to stop and go help.  Before I knew it the wheel spun hard with my wrist against the smooth part of my steering wheel and whats best described as one nasty rug burn was the result.  About two square inches of skin got removed.  Not as bad as it looks but I didn’t see a good reason to give you a close up….

Wheel safe and watch that wheel!
