A Winch for the Tail

By Tony K and Eric B

You might think this a bit of an extravagance but when you drive a wagon you have to find a way to keep the back of the rig off of the trees and other carnage inducing obstacles. I just use a small 6000 lb winch as its primary use is side pulls not recovery.

The 1/4 in cable and small roller fairlead  are both  plenty strong enough for its intended use.  Not that it won’t pull the rig out if it had to, but the smaller winch was easier to fit below the fuel tank, tucked up behind the bumper.

I had to make the mount and when I did I combined it with the hitch receiver.  This way everything stayed up and out of the way when my rig crashes down on some rock or ledge.
