No Speedo

Had a couple of interesting days, the speedometer quit in my rig.  Strange to not have it and this is when you realize just how often you look at the darn thing.  But more than the speedo, I missed having my odometer.  While my fuel gauge is accurate I find myself more and more paying attention to the miles driven to tell me when it’s time to fuel up.

But I found myself using the tach much more than I already do and listening more carefully to the sounds coming from the engine.  Started to like the fact that I had to pay more attention to sensory things rather than an indication on the dash.  Not that I had a complete loss of a speed indicator, I did have my GPS but its out of my line of sight so it’s more of a back up than anything else.

Had to think about getting a new dash console which bummed me out but not because of the cost.  More due to the fact I would lose the miles listed on the odometer, 491,000 kilometers actually but lose them I would if I had to change out the dash.  Not that I have put all those miles on the rig but that number has meaning to me, even if I can’t put it into words.

Then I took a short drive to add fuel and while the pump was running decided to shove my hand under the dash and give the speedo cable a little motivation.  Felt it move back onto the connector of the speedo, left the station and lo and behold I once again have a speedo but more importantly I get to keep my miles….
